Grameen Shakti providing food support to 1,750 families in need
As part of its humanitarian effort, Grameen Shakti head office staffers have started providing food support to some 1,750 underprivileged families across the country.
Initially, they launched a "Food Distribution Programme" targeting 1,000 families in 10 districts, distributing rice, lentils, potato, soybean oil and soap to each of the families, according to a press release.
Between April 3 and April 14, the programme reached 800 of the targeted families in 8 districts -- Tangail, Jamalpur, Dinajpur, Kishoreganj, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Faridpur and Nilphamari, while relief distribution to Netrakona and Thakurgaon districts is set to begin, the release said.
Many local organisations in these selected districts participated in the relief programme.
Besides, Grameen Shakti launched a new initiative to provide food for three months to an additional 750 underprivileged families, the release also read.
Low-income people across the country have lost their means of livelihood due to lockdown measures implemented to curb spread of coronavirus and are now facing a terrible food crisis, according to the release.
Grameen Shakti is one of the top companies providing renewable energy technology in Bangladesh.
