A total 279 Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (BAVDP) members have been infected with Covid-19 after 11 more of the force tested positive in the last 24 hours in the country.
Among the infected, 238 members contracted coronavirus when they were on duty in Dhaka and 41 others were infected while on duty in different districts, Mehnaz Tabassum Rabin, deputy director of BAVDP said today.
BAVDP also handed over Tk 5 lakh cheque and Eid gifts to the family of Ansar member Abdul Mazid today. Mazid died with Covid-19 infection on May 11.
Mazid tested Covid-19 positive while on duty at Bhatara Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
On behalf of Major General Kazi Sharif Kaikobad, Director General of BAVDP (Dhaka range), Acting Deputy Director Sazzadur Rahman and Dhaka City Ansar Commander (DMP zone) Md Moinul Islam handed over the cheque and Eid gifts to the family members around 12:00pm at the force's Dhaka city office today, Rabin said.
