Coronavirus: Police personnel cases reach single-day peak with 340

A total of 340 police personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 in 24 hours till 12:00pm today, the highest number of infection recorded among the law enforcers within the span of time in the country so far.

The total number of police personnel infected with coronavirus has now jumped to 3,235, according to a tally of Police Headquarters.

The previous highest recorded number of police infected in 24 hours was 241 on May 16.

Of the total number of infected police personnel, 1,277 are from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Ten have died of Covid-19, while 569 others have recovered till today.

Police officials said they have made all arrangements for the treatment of their infected colleagues.

Authorities recently booked a private hospital to treat the policemen infected with Covid-19 as the Central Police Hospital has been struggling to deal with the volume of patients.

Police officials said the number of infected among police is on the rise as it is quite difficult for law enforcers to carry out their duties without coming into contact with people.
