Staying mentally strong is the key: MP says after Covid-19 recovery
Staying mentally strong is of utmost importance in order to recover from Covid-19, an Awami League lawmaker who was diagnosed with the virus has said following his recovery.
"Despite being a patient of diabetes and hypertension, I did not break down. I always tried to stay upbeat," Shahiduzzaman Sarker, AL MP from Naogaon-2 constituency, told The Daily Star today.
"You can't lose your nerve," the 65-year-old lawmaker advised those who are infected with Covid-19.
Sarker also said that he only followed the health guidelines advised by the doctors.
"Although Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina advised me to get admitted to a hospital, my wife humbly disagreed and I took treatment at my MP hostel residence (at Manik Mia Avenue)," he said, adding that he just took paracetamol and a few medicines for runny nose.
Sarker, also chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on power, energy and mineral resources, noted that frequent gargling with hot water and salt helped him.
"I tested negative -- for the second time -- today," the lawmaker added.
Earlier on May 1, Sarker, also a former whip of the parliament, confirmed to The Daily Star that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and consented to disclosing his details.
Sarker also said that he had gone to his village home recently and probably got infected there.
