Risking their lives, police standing by people: IGP
With an aim to turn police into a people-friendly force, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has started collecting suggestion from all rank officials, especially those working in the field.
Members of Bangladesh Police have stood by the people, risking their lives, from day one of coronavirus pandemic in the country, the police chief said.
"The way police have approached people, stood by them and protected them during the pandemic is undoubtedly commendable. Not only in Bangladesh but also people from different parts of the world are praising the force on social media," he said.
In just three months, police have managed to secure a place in the hearts of the people, said Benazir.
The police chief then raised a question: what will happen after the pandemic ends?
"Shall we go back to the previous state?" -- police asked around five hundred members from constables to inspectors rank, who were participating in a workshop at police headquarters today to give written opinions on good practice, career, corruption, welfare and other crisis.
"No, we will not return from the position we are at now. We will go further from here," he said.
The IGP said that people's love and respect cannot be bought, it has to be earned.
