N’ganj councillor, who helped arrange last rites of coronavirus victims, tests Covid-19 positive
Maksudul Alam Khandaker Khorshed, councillor of Ward 13 in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), who has been helping arrange the last rites of Covid-19 victims, tested positive for the virus.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) sent his result this evening, Khorshed told our Narayanganj correspondent.
Earlier, his wife Afroza Khandaker Luna tested positive for the virus on May 22, he said, adding that both had been staying in home isolation since then.
"However, her condition had been deteriorating, and since I have to take care of her, I came into contact. Later, I had my sample collected for Covid-19 test on May 28. The report came positive this evening," Khorshed said.
"I am yet to exhibit the symptoms of the infection. But my wife's condition is getting worse and she needs to be hospitalised. She has all the symptoms, including breathing complications, fever, and chest pain," the councillor said.
"Our activities regarding arranging last rites of the deceased victims will continue. I will oversee the activities over phone," he also said.
The city corporation has been in touch with the councillor and has been providing him advice regarding the treatments while in home isolation, said Sheikh Mostofa Ali, chief health officer of NCC.
Councillor Khorshed has arranged the last rites for 61 people who died from either Covid-19, or similar symptoms.
Since March 8, he has also raised awareness among the people of the locality about Covid-19, and distributed 20,000 leaflets and 60,000 thousand hand sanitisers, along with food materials, vegetables among people.
