N’ganj 300-bed Hospital to treat Covid-19 patients
The Directorate General of Health Services has announced that the Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital in Khanpur area of Narayanganj city will be used to provide treatment to patients diagnosed with coronavirus (Covid-19).
All patients who are presently undergoing treatment at the 300-bed hospital will be shifted to Narayanganj General Hospital, said Muhammad Imtiaj, civil surgeon of the district.
The hospital will begin treatment for coronavirus patients from next week, he said.
DGHS informed the hospital authorities in this regard on Wednesday over phone, said Dr Gautam Roy, superintendent of the 300-bed hospital.
Only patients who are infected with coronavirus will be admitted to the hospital following the directive, Dr Gautam said, adding that they would refer the other patients to the 100-bed general hospital for treatment instead.
The decision has been taken since Narayanganj has turned into a hotspot of the coronavirus outbreak, with the second most confirmed cases after Dhaka, the civil surgeon said.
Since it has become difficult to take the Covid-19 patients from Narayanganj to Dhaka for treatment, the authorities have decided to prepare the 300-bed hospital in the district for treatment of the patients there, he added.
