Man left out of relief net dies by suicide in Chattogram
A man died by suicide in Chattogram's Bashkhali upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased, Topu Das (30), from Sorol union in the upazila, was a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting Topu's wife Nipa Das.
Topu was unable to take his vehicle out for the last two weeks due to the ongoing nationwide shutdown over the coronavirus pandemic.
The family, which survived on Topu's income, was severely affected due to the drop in income following the shutdown, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting Topu's wife Nipa Das.
She said they had recently gotten into an argument over the lack of food.
Mostak Ahmed, a union parishad member of Sorol union, told The Daily Star that the family did not receive any relief as there are families more disadvantaged than Topu's family.
Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Baskhali Police Station confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.
The dead body has been sent for post mortem, the OC said.
