Covid-19 deaths: each migrant worker’s family to get Tk 3 lakh compensation
The families of each migrant worker who died from coronavirus abroad will get Tk 3 lakh as compensation from the Wage Earners' Welfare Board (WEWB) under the expatriates' welfare ministry.
The ministry made the announcement today on its social media page citing Expatriates' Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad.
Asked, WEWB Director General Hamidur Rahman said they will try to disburse the money in the quickest possible time after scrutinising the required documents and verifying identities of the family members.
He said the welfare board usually pays Tk 3 lakh each to the families of regular or documented migrant workers who die abroad due to various reasons.
However, considering the circumstances, families of undocumented workers who died due to the disease abroad will also get the money, he told this newspaper over phone.
The DG, however, said families of expatriates in three categories will not get the compensation money.
They are green card holders in the United States, any permanent resident in a foreign country and those who have dual citizenship, he added.
