Coronavirus claims life of retired doctor
A retired doctor named Upendra Nath Paul (75) died of coronavirus infection in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat yesterday.
Quoting Bagerhat Civil Surgeon Dr KM Humayun Kabir, Dr Rahat Anwar Chowdhury, joint secretary of Foundation for Doctors' Safety Rights and Responsibility (FDSR), an organisation of doctors, said Dr Upendranath Paul breathed his last at 8:30pm yesterday night while undergoing treatment at Covid-19 unit at a Khulna Hospital.
Dr Rahat said Paul's samples were collected and sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital two weeks ago after he developed coronavirus symptoms.
His report came positive and he was admitted to the Covid-19 unit in Khulna Hospital, he said.
With him, a total of 48 doctors have died of Covid-19 infection, while eight doctors have died showing Covid-19 like symptoms so far.
