A traffic constable of Chattogram Metropolitan Police who recently recovered from Covid-19 infection today donated his plasma to a doctor suffering from coronavirus infection and undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

The plasma of Arun Chakma, stationed with CMP north traffic division, was taken at CMCH, said Md Moinul Islam, CMP additional deputy commissioner (ADC).

The ADC said Arun Chakma was the first policeman to recover from the virus last month and later joined duty again.

The first transfusion of plasma to Dr Samirul was on May 26 and the second transfusion will be administered by tomorrow, said Dr AMM Minhajur Rahman, organising secretary of Chattogram Division Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip), who was overseeing the treatment of Dr Samirul.

CMCH Director Brig Gen SM Humayun Kabir said a medical board headed by Professor Sujat Paul of Medicine Dept has been formed today for his treatment.

According to WHO guidelines, the second dose of plasma will have to be transfused to the patient on the third day after the first dose, he said, adding that the health condition of Dr Samirul is stable.

Dr Aniruddha Ghosh, associate professor of medicine and a member of the medical board, said oxygen saturation of Dr Samirul is not normal. The second plasma dose will be transfused to him by tomorrow and further treatment will be provided to him according to his health status.
