Another Ansar man dies of Covid-19

Another member of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, who tested Covid-19 positive earlier, died while undergoing treatment at his residence in Gaibandha today.

Victim Abdur Rauf, 55, was an assistant platoon commander of the force. He had been carrying out duties at the mobile court camp at Bhanga area of Faridpur.

Rauf went to his native village in Gaibandha district on June 10 after taking leave and was tested Covid-19 positive on June 12, Mehnaz Tabassum Rabin, deputy director of the force, told The Daily Star.

Rauf breathed his last around midnight early today, she said, adding with his death, the total of the number of death rose to three in the force.

Rauf was buried at his family graveyard following WHO protocols as per directives of Maj Gen Kazi Sharif Kaikobad, director general of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party.

Meanwhile, around 26 members of the force were tested Covid-19 positive in last 24 hours, raising the number of infections to 478 today, according to a statement of the force.

Among them, 354 officials were discharging their duties in Dhaka and 124 others in different other districts. Around 86 Ansar members remain in home quarantine.

Besides, 297 Ansar members, who earlier tested Covid-19 positive, have recovered till today and the recovery rate is around 62 percent, said the statement.
