23-yr-old Thakurgaon woman dies alone as Covid-19 fear keeps family away
A 23-year-old woman, who died from coronavirus-like symptoms at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital, was buried by volunteers in the early hours of today in a donated parcel of land, away from her family and her village.
The patient, hailing from Badupara village in Thakurgaon Sadar, was admitted yesterday morning with fever and breathing complications, our local correspondent reports.
She breathed her last around 1:00am while undergoing treatment at the hospital's pre-isolation ward where patients with coronavirus-like symptoms are being treated, said Dr Rakibul Alam, resident medical officer (RMO).
When doctors tried to reach her family, no one would respond.
The woman was then buried in the land donated by Ramjan Ali, a member in Akcha union.
Dr Rakibul said they tried to contact the woman's family but they would not respond.
Later, her sample was collected for Covid-19 test and sent to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital's lab, the physician said.
Chairman of Akcha Union Parishad Subrata Kumar Barman said the woman's in-laws and paternal family members had still not taken her body as locals refused to let her be buried at their village.
Later, volunteers buried the body at the donated land.
