10-month-old tests Covid-19 positive in Chattogram
A ten-month-old boy of Chattogram has tested Covid-19 positive.
The baby, whose family is from Joara village in Chandanaish upazila under Chattogram district, has been suffering from fever and breathing problem, and is now undergoing treatment at Chattogram General Hospital.
He was among the four whose samples were found positive in the lab tests at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) yesterday, said Chattogram Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi.
The baby was undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital since Saturday.
After receiving the result, health officials shifted the boy to Chattogram General Hospital last night, the civil surgeon told our Chattogram correspondent.
However, health officials were yet to determine from whom the baby contracted the virus.
"We have come to know that his father is an expatriate working in a Middle Eastern country, but he did not come to the country recently," said the civil surgeon.
Contacted, Dr Jamal Mostafa, focal person of Covid-19 treatment in Chattogram General Hospital, said they have collected samples of his mother. "It is mysterious as to how the 10-month old baby was infected with Covid-19."
"We are trying to know his contact history," said the physician.
With that baby, a total of 27 coronavirus patients have been undergoing treatment in Chattogram General Hospital, he said.
He was the youngest Covid-19 patient in Chattogram. Earlier, a six-year-old boy from Patiya upazila tested coronavirus positive, the civil surgeon further said.
