Dhaka University Cultural Society celebrates “Ashar Parbon 1432”

Dhaka University Cultural Society (DUCS) hosted the event "Asharh Parbon 1432" on July 13, marking the arrival of the monsoon season.

DUCS inaugurated the festival with a vibrant opening ceremony. The event was formally inaugurated by Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer, Dhaka University. Education Adviser Prof. Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar was present at the event as the Chief Guest.

The lively spirit of monsoon was honoured with music, dance, poetry recitation, and other cultural events at the university's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) Auditorium. During the daylong celebrations, there was also a unique entrepreneurs' market with stalls by young craftspeople and small business owners selling traditional crafts and goods with a monsoon theme. The highlight of the evening was a captivating musical performance by the band Joler Gaan, adding a special charm to the festivities.

Esteemed actor and cultural icon Tariq Anam Khan, along with renowned dancer Munmun Ahmed, were present as Special Guests. The ceremony was chaired by Associate Professor Dr Rasheda Rawnak Khan from the Department of Anthropology, who also serves as the moderator of the Cultural Society.

In her speech, Dr. Rawnak Khan noted, "This festival is more than just a celebration; it serves as a meaningful encounter between the younger generation and the timeless essence of Bangali culture and nature."

This colourful celebration aimed not only to uphold the rich traditions of Bangladesh's six seasons but also to support and promote local creativity and entrepreneurship. The festival drew a large audience of students, teachers, and visitors, all coming together to embrace the poetic beauty and cultural significance of the monsoon.
