Supplying school uniforms: Viqarunnisa Noon School warned against ‘monopolising business’
Bangladesh Competition Commission today asked Viqarunnisa Noon School and College to refrain from monopolising business with an organisation that supplies uniform to all students without any competition.
The commission, a government body responsible for encouraging competition in the market, in a suo moto rule warned school authorities for giving a contract to Messrs Chowdhury Enterprise to supply uniform to all students by breaking Competition Act 2012.
It asked the college to cancel the contract with Messrs Chowdhury Enterprise and select at least three tailors for each of its three campuses for preparing the uniforms.
The commission also fined the contractor with Tk 79,897 calculating two per cent of its total turnover of Tk 1, 19, 84,580 that it got from supplying uniform from 2018 to 2020.
Messrs Chowdhury Enterprise was ordered to pay the fine by March 31 at the bank account of the competition commission.
