Stock index touches 5,400 points
The country's stock index has touched 5,400 points at the end of trading in the year 2020 after around 18 months.
DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, rose 43.80 points, or 0.81 percent, to 5,402 today. It was at 5,421 points on June 31 of 2019.
The stock market has been rising for the last six consecutive days riding on higher participation from institutional investors.
Turnover, another important indicator of the DSE, rose 11.56 percent to Tk 1,543 crore today.
Of the listed 362 companies, 120 advanced, 165 declined and 77 remained same.
Investors are hopeful now because vaccination has started already in USA and UK, said Faruk Ahmed, a stock investor who has been in the market since 2005.
Today is the last trading day in the stock market. Tomorrow will be closed as bank holiday.
