SMEs can now raise up to Tk 30cr from capital market
The small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can now raise up to Tk 30 crore from the capital market.
Mafizur Rahman, managing director of SME Foundation, and Tarique Amin Bhuiyan, managing director of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), signed a memorandum of understanding at the DSE Tower in Khilkhet Dhaka today.
"This opportunity for the small and medium enterprises to raise capital from the capital market will undoubtedly introduce a new era for the SME sector in the country," Rahman said.
Expressing gratitude to the DSE, he said: "Just signing the MoU is not enough, it has to be successful".
The SME sector contributes 60 per cent to India's economy, about 70 per cent in China and Japan, but only 25 per cent in Bangladesh.
"The SME Foundation is working towards building the capacity of entrepreneurs to increase their contribution to the country. One of the biggest problems faced by SME entrepreneurs in the country is the capital crisis," he said.
"In order to solve that crisis, BSEC has framed rules to allow small and medium entrepreneurs to raise capital from the capital market," Rahman added.
DSE Chairman Eunusur Rahman said the government announced a package for small and medium entrepreneurs in two phases, but most of the entrepreneurs did not benefit from the package for various complications.
"It is a great opportunity for them to raise capital from the capital market. Because the capital market is the most reliable place to raise long-term capital."
