Shopowners want to open markets, shops from Aug 6
Bangladesh Shop Owners' Association today urged the government to keep markets and shops open from August 6.
They came up with the call at a press conference in Dhaka's New Market this afternoon.
Md Helal Uddin, president of the association, said the small traders are going through difficult situations for not having any income due to the closure of the shops.
He requested the government to keep the small business establishments, shops and markets out of the purview of the lockdown considering the miserable conditions of the traders.
The shops have remained closed for a total of 270 days since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Uddin said.
He said that they have already placed a four-point demand to the government including the demand for reopening their business establishments and stimulus for them so that they can be able to operate their business again.
According to the organisation, the number of wholesalers and retailers in the country is about 56 lakh and more than two crore employees work in this sector.
