Build separate approval authority for building's structural design: FBCCI
A separate authority should be established to approve the structural design to ensure building safety, said Md Jashim Uddin, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
He also urged the capital's development authority, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk), to revise the new detailed area plan or DAP.
He came up with the call at the first meeting of the FBCCI's standing committee on real estate and housing held at the apex trade body's office in Dhaka on Sunday.
Jashim Uddin said the Rajuk gives approval of the architectural design of buildings, but no agency is there to approve their structural design.
So, a separate authority should be formed to ensure building safety, he said.
The government should facilitate automated brick production with policy support to stop pollution from traditional brick fields, he said.
The automated bricks are more affordable, the FBCCI president said.
Earlier, FBCCI Vice President Md Amin Helaly said the Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (Rehab) should come up with a model village plan, which would include all modern facilities to ensure decent living in rural areas.
He suggested that the Rehab should continue its discussion with the central bank governor and the association concerned for easy project loans in the real estate sector.
