BGMEA wins Digital Bangladesh Award 2021

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has been honoured with the Digital Bangladesh Award 2021 given by the ICT Division for the association's Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System.
The garment makers' platform took the initiative of preparing a biometric database for apparel workers in 2013, according to a statement from the BGMEA.
The Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System (Worker Database) stores workers' records, including information related to their employment and identities in the local and cloud server databases.
Currently, this database is being used by about 2,500 member factories of BGMEA for more than 4 million workers every day.
On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak handed over the crest to BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at an event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The premier attended the programme virtually from her official residence Gono Bhaban.
PM's Principal Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus was present at the special guest.
BGMEA made the Digital Worker Database considering the importance of accurate, credible and complete information of the workforce in the RMG sector, which is in alignment of the government's vision of building Digital Bangladesh, said Faruque Hassan.
He also mentioned that the BGMEA has also been awarded with the 'WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards' in Sustainable Growth/Circular Economy Award category by WITSA for using 'Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System' in the 25th World Congress on Information Technology.
