For the first time in Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have launched an "On-site Identification and Verification System (OIVS) to check any criminal or suspect's full profile instantly."

Simply inputting the finger print of any criminal or suspect into the OIVS will create a profile of the person with their details of NID, Passport and Immigration history, criminal database, previous arrest history and information about any stay in jail within seconds.

The OIVS will also provide information whether any person violates traffic rules or belongs to Rohingya community.

The OIVS will also help law enforcers to trace the identity of any unidentified body.

Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal inaugurated the OIVS at the conference room of the home ministry today as a chief guest.

In the programme, the minister also inaugurated a Television Commercial (TVC) title "Mrittionjoye Sahoshe Manusher Pashe (By the people with immortal courage)". The TVC was made to commemorate the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Rab.

Col Tofail Mostofa Sarwar, additional director general (operation) of Rab, said that the OIVS system is also capable to detect anyone's identity if finger print is provided through a scanner.

Any mobile team of the force from anywhere of the country will be able to check suspects' identity through the OIVS and it will create a PDF profile in the headquarters, he said.
