“Lal Jomin” at 150
Shunyan Repertory Theatre's maiden production "Lal Jomin" is set to reach the landmark of 150 stagings tomorrow, as it tours the Moulvibazar district.
The mono-drama (one-person show) performed by Momena Chowdhury has been written by Mannan Hira and directed by Sudip Chakraborthy. The play premiered on May 19, 2011 at Dhaka University's Natmandal and has since been staged at various locations in the country and abroad.
"Lal Jomin" is a poignant tale of a 13-year-old girl in a war-torn Bangladesh, highlighting the effects of the Liberation War on present day. It will have its 149th staging today in Moulvibazar, and the 150th staging will take place tomorrow at Sreemangal's Mohsin Auditorium, organized by the local Bijoyi Theatre.
"Three women Freedom Fighters will light candles to mark the 150th staging," informed Momena Chowdhury, the leader of Shunyan Repertory. She also expressed gratitude to the Cultural Affairs ministry, Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and all others who have supported the play throughout its journey, as well as to theatre troupe Aranyak Natya Dal.
The play began a stint of 10 stagings every month from October 2017, with the support of the Cultural Affairs ministry.
