Professor Abdul Mannan’s 75th birth anniversary celebrated

Professor Abdul Mannan is a renowned art connoisseur, popular media personality, veteran politician, former MP and a freedom fighter. His 75th Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee arranged a programme at RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium, University of Dhaka (DU), to celebrate the occasion recently.

Professor Syed Anwar Husain, Bangabandhu Chair of Bangladesh University of Professionals, presided over the programme while Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, former Vice Chancellor of DU, was a special speaker at the event. Renowned publisher Mazharul Islam, on behalf of the birth anniversary celebration committee, delivered the welcome address at the event.

Internationally celebrated artist Shahabuddin Ahmed wished Professor Mannan over the phone from Paris at the programme. Renowned artist Shahid Kabir, Professor Nisar Hossain, prolific artist and Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art (FFA), DU,  Rear Admiral (Retd) Abu Taher and Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Milton Hossain among others, spoke at the programme. 

Poet Tarik Sujat recited a poem that he wrote in honour of Professor Mannan. Renowned Artist-Professor Mostafizul Haque, and his students of FFA, DU, performed Tagore songs. Artiste Prakash Kumar Bonik and his troupe Baula Dol also performed.

Representatives from FFA, DU, the Fine Art Department of Jahangirnagar University, Gallery Chitrak, along with prominent publishers and renowned artists, including Sheikh Afzal Hossain and Ahmed Shamsuddoha, presented bouquets to Professor Abdul Mannan.
