Many Happy Returns to Mustafa Monwar!

Mustafa Monwar’s contribution in fine arts has been unparalleled since decades. Starting from his puppeteering during the Liberation war, his creativity extends to almost all forms of art, including painting, performance, and sculpting. He is a producer, TV and radio programme director, among other things. Currently, he is the Chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, and a professor of the Department of Drawing and Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.
Born on September 1, 1935, Mustafa Monwar soon developed a fidelity towards art, under the inspiration of his father, poet Golam Mostafa. Known widely as ‘The Puppet Man of Bangladesh’, he was honoured with the Ekushey Padak for Fine Arts in 2004, and the Zainul Abedin Gold Medal (painting) for his outstanding contribution to our culture and heritage.
