Govt urged not to relocate Energy commission from DU campus
In a joint statement on Sunday, they said since its inception the AEC has been working on peaceful uses of atomic energy maintaining international standard recognised by International Atomic Energy Agency.
The statement said more than 60 researchers from home and abroad obtained their Ph.D. degree using research facilities of the AEC.
"Arsenic contamination in the country's ground water was first detected at the AEC laboratory in 1993, and presence of high level lead in the air of Dhaka City and its probable sources were also identified by the AEC," the statement added.
The former chairmen said the reason for establishing the AEC in the proximity of DU was to facilitate close cooperation between the AEC scientists and DU teachers and students.
They said the decision of handing over the land and establishment of AEC to DU should be reviewed.
The signatories to the statement included National Professor Dr M Innas Ali, Dr Anwar Hossain, Dr M A Mannan, Engineer M A Quaiyyum, Dr M A Wazed Miah, Engineer Mohammed Habibullah and Dr Naiyyum Chowdhury.
