A teenage girl who appeared in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations this year allegedly committed suicide at her sister's house at Demra in Dhaka yesterday.

Shahnaz Akhtar Sumi, 18, was found hanging from the ceiling with her scarf at around 4:00pm.

Sumi, daughter of Sirajul Islam of Chandpur, came to her sister's home at Konapara Adarshabagh five days ago from her village, said her elder brother Shahadat Hossain.

"Receiving information, I rushed to my sister's home and found her hanging from the ceiling," said Hossain, a vegetable vendor at Konapara.

He brought Shahnaz to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 5.00pm but the doctors declared her dead.

"I have no idea what made her commit suicide," Hossain said.

Demra police also failed to provide details about the incident.
