Make madrasa education modern, time-befitting

They said the Muslims would not be able to uphold the values and glories of Islam until they become enlightened by modern education.

The dialogue titled 'Islam: Religion of peace, harmony and humanity' was organised by the Centre for National and Regional Studies (CNRS) in Cox's Bazar.

The speakers said the vested quarters are trying to identify the Muslims as terrorist all over the world and this evil attempt is also continuing in Bangladesh.

They alleged that some quarters are intentionally misleading the general people about the madrasa education.

The speakers called upon the Muslims to face the propaganda against them unitedly with courage and patience.

Mohiuddin Khan, editor of the monthly Madina, said there is no room for violence and militant activities in Islam.

"The Jihad in Islam does not mean violence, rather it aims at purifying one's mind," he added.

Former director of the Islamic Foundation Syed Ashraf Ali called for updating the madrasa educaton at per with its golden age when the Muslims led the whole world.

"Muslims will have to be equipped with modern knowledge, otherwise they will not be able to move forward in a competitive world of today," said Prof Mahbubullah, chairman of the board of governors of Sonali Bank.

CNRS President Abul Hasib Khan, Vice-president Sajjad Hossain, Secretary General Ertiza Nasim Ali, Assistant General Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Abdul Kader Mollah, President of the Masjid Council for Development Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-vice-chancellor of Chittagong University Prof Mohammad Shamsuddin, and Prof Dr Hasan Mohammad of political science department also took part in the dialogue.
