Bangladesh Chemical Congress begins
A three-day Bangladesh Chemical Congress began at the Teachers Students Centre of Dhaka University yesterday with a call to promoting chemical education in the country.
This year the theme of the congress is 'Chemistry Education for National Development'.
Inaugurating the congress, Education Minister Dr M Osman Farruk said chemistry is one of the core scientific disciplines and its development would contribute directly to our everyday lives including food, medicine, and environment.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof SMA Faiz, Chairman of University Grants Commission Prof M Asaduzzaman, Bangladesh Chemical Society General Secretary Dr Akhtar Uddin Ahmed and Chairman of the organising committee Prof AJ Mahmud also spoke.
Over 600 chemists from home and abroad are taking part in the congress.
Held after 18 years, the congress will end tomorrow, the source said.
