Draft of JMBA (Amend) Act approved

The cabinet yesterday approved in principle the draft of The Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority (Amendment) Act, 2004 aimed at amending the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority Ordinance, 1985.

This approval was given at the regular cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) with Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in the chair.

The cabinet also okayed the proposed holiday schedule of 2005 for all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous organisations.

It discussed in detail the progress of implementation of post-flood rehabilitation programmes.

The meeting was told that necessary foodgrains were distributed among the distressed in the flood-hit districts under VGF programme.

It was also informed that necessary foodgrains were allotted for construction and repair of rural infrastructure in the flood-affected districts under the food for work and the test relief programmes.

Repair and renovation works of roads, bridges, culverts, embankments and educational institutions in flood-hit districts are going on, the meeting was told.

The meeting was informed that seeds of foodgrains and fertilizers were distributed among the flood-affected farmers.

Ministers and concerned state ministers attended the meeting.
