2 women die with coronavirus-like symptoms in Kushtia, Chuadanga

Two women, who were suffering from fever, cough and breathing issues, died in Kushtia and Chuadanga today.

Of them, a 34-year-old died in Kushtia General Hospital around 12:30pm, said Tapas Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer (RMO) of the hospital.

She had been undergoing treatment there since Friday with fever, cold, cough and breathing complications. She was shifted to the isolation unit of the hospital on the same day. 

"Sample had already been collected," said RMO adding that after receiving the report, it can be ascertained whether she was infected with coronavirus.

Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam said that the body will be buried under special arrangements.

SM Tanvir Arafath, superintendent of police in Kushtia, said the five houses were locked down following the death.

In Chuadanga, a 65-year-old woman died at Jibonnagar Upazila Health Complex around 8:00am with similar symptoms.

Juliet Parwin, upazila health and family planning officer, said the woman was admitted to the hospital last night with fever, cold, cough and breathing trouble.

Later, she was shifted to the isolation unit of the hospital where she died, Juliet said.

The sample has been collected to ascertain whether she had coronavirus infection, the health official told our Kushtia correspondent.

Saiful Isalm, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jibonnagar Police Station, said 10 houses were locked down following the death.
