Madaripur teacher attack: 'Mastermind' held

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit last night detained the alleged mastermind behind the attack on a Hindu college teacher in Madaripur.

Detainee Khaled Saidullah was arrested from Dhaka’s Demra area, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) Masudur Rahman.

The details regarding the matter will be disclosed in a press briefing later in the day.

Ripon Chakrabarty, a lecturer of Mathematics at Government Nazimuddin College in Madaripur, was critically injured after three suspected militants attacked him with sharp weapons at his house on June 15.

Three men took part in the attack and one of them was caught by locals while fleeing. They later handed him over to the police. Police identified him as Golam Faizullah, of Chapainawabganj.

Later on June 18, Golam Faizullah was killed in a “shootout” with police in Sadar upazila.

Deceased Golam Faizullah Fahim, who had “admitted” to being a member of the banned outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir, was on a 10-day remand in connection with the attempted murder case.
