Former Indian spinner Sunil Joshi has applied for the role Bangladesh’s spin bowling coach, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan Papon told reporters in Hyderabad earlier today.

Papon however, stated that they have many more candidates and are yet to finalise the person for the role. He also said that he couldn’t speak to anyone from the Board of Control for Cricket in India with regards to a future series between India and Bangladesh as the BCCI is currently going through a transition.

“He [Joshi] had applied for the job long before. We have his bio data already. Nothing new has happened. We are looking for spin-bowling coaches. I did not meet him yet. We will go to Dhaka and finalise on a coach. There are other candidates as well,” said Papon.

Joshi played for India in between 1996 and 2001. He was a slow left-arm bowler, who scalped 41 Test wickets and 69 ODI wickets.

Sri Lanka’s Ruwan Kalpage was Bangladesh’s former spin-bowling coach. He was also given the additional role of assistant coach. However,

However, the board terminated Kalpage’s contract in August 2016 after he failed to turn up for work.
