Tonu’s body exhumed

The body of Sohagi Jahan Tonu was exhumed today for conducting a fresh autopsy, 10 days after she was found murdered inside Comilla Cantonment area.

Following a court order, Tonu’s body was exhumed at Mirzapur village in Muradnagar upazila around 11:15am, Superintendent of Comilla Shah Abid Hossain told The Daily Star.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Comilla Monday ordered police to exhume the body after investigators prayed to the court for a fresh autopsy.

A second-year history student of Comilla Victoria College and a cultural activist, Tonu was found dead about 400 yards from her house inside Comilla Cantonment on the night of March 20, according to her family members.

Her father Year Hossain, an office assistant of Comilla Cantonment Board, filed a murder case with Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station the next day.

As the demand for justice grows louder and protest surges across the country, people from all walks of life, especially students, started demonstration at different parts of the country demanding justice for the 19-year-old girl.
