Probe body formed over Rangamati gun attack

A seven-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the yesterday’s gun attack in Baghaichari of Rangamati that left seven people dead.

Chattogram divisional commissioner today formed the probe body, said Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan. The body, headed by the director of local government of Chattogram division, has been asked to submit its report by 10-working days, he told our Chattogram staff correspondent.

The probe committee has been asked to find out the reason behind the killing, ascertain the extent of losses of lives and properties and to prepare recommendations to avert such incident in future, he said.

The other members of the committee are -- Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police in Chattogram Range, a representative of Hill Tracts Development Board, Director and Battalion Captain of 30 Ansar Battalion, an official equivalent to Major rank of BGB, Chief Executive Officer of Rangamati Jila Parishad and Additional District Magistrate of Rangamati.

At least seven people, including two polling officials and four Ansar personnel, were shot dead and 14 people were injured in the deadly attack in Rangamati's Baghaichhari during the second phase of upazila election yesterday.
