A group of students under banner ‘Students Against Repression’ demonstrated at campus today and went up to the office of the proctor seeking for explanation of his inaction over attack on his students at Dhaka University.

On Saturday, alleged activists of ruling party’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League assaulted quota reform activists near central library premises. The movement’s leader Nurul Haque Nur was injured in the attack.

It prompted a countrywide attack on activists who have been demanding a reform to the quota system in civil service. The university authorities, especially at Dhaka University, has been seen silent in this regard.

In a dual stand, upon an array of questions, the proctor also said he will investigate the incident of attack on campus and take steps accordingly.

In addition, he also warned of actions against those who are “trying to agitate the peaceful educational environment” at campus.

When asked about the arrested leaders of the quota reform movement, who are students of Dhaka University, and if the authorities will take any steps in this regard, the proctor went away without speaking a word.
