Bowler who leaked 92 runs banned for 10 years

Lalmatia Club bowler Sujon Mahmud, who had given away 92 runs off four balls in order to protest ‘poor umpiring’ at a second division match in the form of wides and no-balls, has been suspended from playing cricket for ten years by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The captain, manager and coach of the club have been suspended for five years. In addition, the club has been banned for life. The umpires officiating the game were suspended for six months for not being able to handle the situation properly.

A bowler from Fearfighters, named Tasnim, who had similarly given away 69 runs in an over a day before the Lalmatia game, has also been banned for ten years. The club too has been banned for life.

“This incident has dented the reputation of Bangladesh cricket and we have taken a stern step because this was important for us,” said BCB director Jalal Yunus.
