Syed Ashraf leaves Dhaka for London

Awami League’s former general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam will not be able to attend today’s presidium meeting of the party as he flew for London this morning to see his ailing wife.

The newly-made presidium member left on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 9:00am, said Md Shaheen, Ashraf’s assistant personal secretary and ministry sources.

Syed Ashraf’s wife is currently in London and is sick. He will stay there for 15 days.

Meanwhile, there has been no change to today’s evening meeting of Awami League’s presidium body – the party’s highest policymaking body – scheduled to be held at Gono Bhaban.

Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting.
