Humiliation of N’ganj teacher: Judicial probe report submitted

The judicial inquiry report on the humiliation of a headmaster in Narayanganj has been submitted to the High Court.

The investigation report prepared by the chief judicial magistrate of Dhaka will be placed today before the HC through the attorney general’s office for its hearing on Sunday, Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Sazu told reporters.

He refused to disclose the content of the probe report saying that it was a sub judice matter.

On May 13, 2016, Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, the headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area, was beaten up by a mob and made to do squats holding his ears in the presence of local Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Salim Osman.

Rejecting a police probe report, the High Court on August 10, 2016, ordered a judicial inquiry into the public humiliation of the Narayanganj school teacher.

In a suo moto rule, the court directed the chief metropolitan magistrate in Dhaka to conduct a fresh inquiry in order to find out the offence committed in its entirety and identify the real perpetrators.

A judicial team from Dhaka on October 24, 2016, launched a probe into the incident of Shyamal’s public humiliation for his alleged derogatory comments on religion.

Aided by Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam, a three-member team led by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Hafizur Rahman reached Narayanganj in the morning and questioned Rifat, the class X student of the school who brought the allegation against Shyamal.
