Annisul laid to rest

PM visits Annisul's Banani residence

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq was buried at Banani graveyard in the capital this afternoon.

He was laid to rest beside the graves of his mother and son around 5:30pm amid hundreds of followers shedding their tears.

Earlier, people from all walks of life, including ministers, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and political leaders paid their last tributes to the mayor.

Later his namaz-e-janaza was held at the army stadium in the capital after Asr prayers. The body was taken there from his Banani residence this afternoon.

PM Sheikh Hasina accompanied by senior Awami League leaders went to Annisul’s residence in Banani around 2:30pm to pay her tribute and console to his family members.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:30pm.

Younger brother of Annisul and Chief of Bangladesh Army General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq received the body at the airport.

Awami League leaders including Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and senior officials of the city corporation were also present at the airport.

At the age of 65, Annisul lost the battle for life in a London hospital on Thursday, after nearly three months’ treatment there for neurological problems.

From the airport, Annisul’s body was taken to his Banani home.
