Kushtia BCL denies attack on Mahmudur

Kushtia district unit President of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Yasir Arafat today denied responsibilities of the Sunday’s attack on Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and demanded justice through a fair investigation.

“We will be clear about the attackers if they are identified through a fair investigation,” Arafat said.

Arafat said this while addressing a press conference at a hotel in the district town this noon.

The BCL leader also held local BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami activists and common people responsible for the attack and claimed that no BCL men were present at the spot during the attack.

“It is an imprudent act. We have already talked to the local administration to find out the attackers,” Arafat said.

Mahmudur Rahman came under attack allegedly by a group of BCL activists when he was coming out of a Kushtia court room after securing permanent bail in a defamation case filed by the district unit BCL president on December 10, 2017.

“There were some people wearing masks. And you (journalists) know who wear such masks. BCL men never wear masks rather militants do this,” Arafat said in reply to a query.

The attack was launched on the Amar Desh acting editor in a bid to put the ruling Awami League in a political setback, the BCL leader said.

“As a plaintiff, I went to the court area along with my followers and left the place by 3:00pm without creating any disturbance,” he added.
