STAR Day At A Glance| Friday, May 26, 2017

This pitch black water is of a canal falling into the Turag river at Shreekhondia of Ashulia industrial area in Savar. It was once a source of fish, fresh water and a medium of river transport for locals. But now, all that is left of the canal is a wide sewer drain emitting gut wrenching foul odour—thanks to indiscriminate dumping of chemical and solid waste from factories and households alike. The photo was taken recently. Photo: Aklakur Rahman Akash/ STAR
