Padma Bridge security: PM inaugurates 2 police stations

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today opened five projects of Bangladesh Police, including two newly constructed police stations – Padma Setu Uttar Thana and Padma Setu Dakkhin Thana – on two sides of the Padma Bridge.

She inaugurated the projects through a videoconference from her official residence Gono Bhaban.

The two police stations are set up at Mawa and Jajira sides of the 6.15km Padma Bridge in order to ensure security for the multipurpose bridge and its users alongside maintaining the law and order in the surrounding areas.

Padma Bridge (North) Police Station is under Munshiganj District Police while Padma Bridge (South) Police Station is under Shariatpur District Police.

Each police station will have one inspector, two sub-inspectors, two assistant sub-inspectors, and 15 constables.

Police will oversee tax collection at toll booths and manage traffic congestion around the bridge and the service roads.

Road and railway slabs, the work of gas pipeline will also be a concern of the police stations.

The two police stations were built at a cost of Tk 35 crore by the Padma Bridge authority.

The premier will open the iconic Padma Bridge on June 25.

Other inaugurated projects are 12 newly constructed district-level police hospitals, six women's barracks for Bangladesh Police, online GD (general diary) activities, and the handing over of 120 houses constructed in the second phase for homeless families.

As part of the government's initiative to construct separate barracks for female members of Police in 64 districts, the six barracks have been constructed.

With the newly constructed 120 abodes, the police have so far provided a total of 520 houses for the homeless families.
