‘Torture of 2 BCL leaders’: ADC Harun now transferred to APBn

Harun-or-Rashid, the additional deputy commissioner of Ramna Division of DMP, who allegedly assaulted two central Chhatra League leaders inside the Shahbagh Police Station last night, has been transferred to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).

Bangladesh Police Headquarters issued a circular in this regard this afternoon.

Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police withdrew ADC Harun from Ramna division and attached him to its Public Order Management Division.

APBn is another unit of the Police.

ADC Harun and other police members took the two BCL leaders to Shahbagh Police Station around 9:00pm yesterday where police tortured them for about an hour, fellow BCL leaders alleged.

The injured BCL leaders are Central Organising Secretary and Dhaka University's Fazlul Haque Hall unit President Anwar Hossain Naeem, and Central Science Affairs Secretary and Shahidullah Hall unit General Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim.

The injured BCL leaders were receiving treatment at a private hospital.

Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said ADC Harun-or-Rashid will be punished for his injustice.

"Whoever did this, be it police or whoever, should be punished for wrongdoing… He must be held accountable for his wrongdoing," he told journalists while replying to a query after inaugurating the Regional Passport Office, Dhaka East (Aftabnagar) here.
