Snatching of militants: Case filed against 20

A case has been filed against 20 named people over the stanching of two death row convicts from police custody on a Dhaka court premises today.

Julhas Uddin Akand, inspector of prosecution division under DMP, filed the case with Kotwali Police Station tonight, Mahbubur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of the police station told The Daily Star.

The two escaped convicts, 10 suspected militants and eight others named and 20-21 unnamed people were made accused in the case, said the police official.

Some unidentified people on two motorcycles arrived at the Dhaka court premised this noon and whisked away two death-row convicts.

The two -- Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Sifat alias Imran, and Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab -- were among eight militants sentenced to death by a Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal in February last year for murdering Jagriti Publications publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan in 2015.
