Natore court asks police to file case against imo hackers

A court in Natore today asked police to file a case against criminals who hacked the "imo" accounts of expatriates to embezzle large sums of money.

Natore Senior Judical Magistrate Md Abu Sayeed issued the order following reports published in two national dailies, including The Daily Star, and a television channel in this regard.

The court also asked the officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station in Natore to submit a report to it by September 22 after filing the case, court sources said.

The court also set the same day for issuing the next order, the sources said.

Talking to our Natore correspondent, Liton Kumar Saha, superintendent of Natore police, said they will take action after receiving the copy of the court order.

In The Daily Star report "Conned on 'imo'" published on August 31, officials of detective branch (DB) of police said several syndicates located around Natore's Lalpur upazila make Tk20,000-30,000 every day by hacking expatriates' imo accounts.

They make the money by contacting the expatriates' family members through the communications app and asking for money for various reasons.
