Man sets himself on fire at Press Club: 2 arrested for abetting suicide

Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested the managing director and the director of Amin Manufacturing Company in Dhaka for abetting suicide of a Kushtia businessman.

The arrestees were identified as Nurul Amin, managing director of Amin Manufacturing Company and Fatema Amin, director of the company.

The arrests were made from Uttara area, Khandaker Al Moin, director of Rab media (wing) confirmed the matter to The Daily Star tonight.

Earlier in the day, businessman Anis (50) of Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia, who tried to take his own life reportedly out of frustration, by setting himself on fire in front of the Jatiya Press Club yesterday afternoon (July 4, 2022), died this morning (July 5, 2022) while undergoing treatment.

Gazi Nazrul Islam, elder brother of Anis, told The Daily Star that his brother invested Tk 1.26 crore in a company.

"My brother had a dispute with the company… He was supposed to return home [in Kushtia] on Sunday after withdrawing funds from that company," said Nazrul

He said that they received a phone call from the hospital and learnt that Anis set himself on fire in the afternoon. "My brother had been depressed over his investment in the company."
