Jhumon Das, who has been in jail for more than six months in a case filed under Digital Security Act (DSA) for criticising Hefajat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque on Facebook, finally walked out of jail this evening.

He left Sunamganj district jail around 6:15pm after the High Court's bail order reached the jail, said Nurshed Ahmed Bhuiyan, superintendent of Sunamganj jail.

On September 23, the High Court granted Jhumon Das one year bail, on condition.

Jhumon's mother Niva Rani Das was present at the jail gate when he was released, Nurshed told our Sylhet correspondent.

Niva Rani Das is overjoyed at her son's release and said she is very happy to get her son back after such a long time.

"I would be happier if my son is completely freed from all charges. I am also worried about his safety as he is returning to our village home," she said.

They are being escorted by police on their return home, added Niva Rani.

Jhumon's Facebook post allegedly led to the mayhem in Noagaon village of Sunamganj's Shalla upazila on March 17, where Hefajat supporters vandalised and looted about 90 Hindu houses.
