Another victim of the Mirsarai train-microbus collision died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) today (August 5, 2022), raising the death toll in the tragedy to 12.

Mohammed Ayat, 17, hailing from Khandakia village under Hathazari upazila of Chattogram, succumbed to his injuries at the Intensive Care Unit of the CMCH around 1:30pm, Dr Pranay Kumar Dutta, associate professor of the unit, told our Chattogram staff correspondent.

Six more victims have been undergoing treatment at the same hospital, he added.

Eleven people died and seven were injured after a train hit their microbus on a level crossing in Mirsarai upazila on July 29, 2022.

Meanwhile, railway police filed a case against Saddam Hosen, the gateman of the level-crossing, and later arrested him in connection with the accident.

A Chattogram court ordered the accused gateman Saddam to prison and the Bangladesh Railway suspended Saddam due to negligence in duty.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Railway (BR) formed a five-member committee to investigate the cause of the accident. It was directed to submit its report within the next seven working days.
