Dhaka café attackers buried as none claims bodies

The five dead Gulshan café attackers and a chef were buried at the Jurain graveyard in Dhaka this afternoon as nobody claimed their bodies, police said.

The five militants Nibras Islam, Rohan Imtiaz, Meer Saameh Mubasheer, Khairul Islam Payel and Shafiqul Islam Uzzal were killed on July 2 following an operation of the joint forces at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan.

Apart from the five, Saiful Islam, reported to be a chef of the café, was also killed in the operation.  

Anjuman Mufidul Islam, a social welfare organisation, buried the bodies at the graveyard around 4:20pm as none claimed or contacted for their remains, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Daily Star. 

Earlier, the bodies were kept at the mortuary of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, he said.

Identities of the five dead militants and the chef were confirmed through DNA tests on August 23.

The DNA samples were collected from the six during their postmortem. Later, the law enforcers also collected DNA samples from family members of the dead attackers.​​

On July 1, armed militants stormed Holey Artisan Bakery at the diplomatic zone in Dhaka's Gulshan area and killed nine Italians, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Indian and one Bangladesh-born US citizen. Two police officers were also killed.
